Control over vital energy and the transmutation of personal power
In this work, Hercules is ordered to bring Eurystheus the belt of Hippolyta, the warrior queen of the Amazons, as a gift for his daughter, Admeta. Hippolyta had received this belt from the god Ares as a symbol of her authority and power. Hercules goes to Cappadocia, where the Amazons lived, accompanied by several heroes (Theseus, Peleus, Telamon, etc.).
Hippolyta, attracted by Hercules, was ready to give him the belt willingly. But the goddess Hera, the embodiment of hidden evil, spread the rumor that Hercules wanted to kidnap Hippolyta. Following this rumor, the Amazons attacked. Hercules, forced to defend himself, defeated them in battle, killed Hippolyta, and took the belt.
This myth is deeply esoteric. Hippolyta’s belt is the symbol of control over the center of force of the Solar Plexus (Centre No. 9)—the place where vital etheric energy is concentrated, which Scripture calls “living water.”
This energy is fundamental: it nourishes the material body, sustains the internal organs, and maintains the nervous and emotional systems. It is the vital fire that sustains biological life and the subconscious forces of desire, will, and instinct. To control it is to become the master of your energetic and emotional dynamics.
Hippolyta, the warrior queen, symbolizes the domineering and selfish personality, which uses vital energy to sustain worldly power, competition, the struggle for superiority, and domination over others. The Amazons around her are the aggressive and defensive elementals of the personality—well-trained negative emotions and militant thought forms that jump into battle whenever they perceive danger.
Admeta, Eurystheus’ daughter, is the image of the ignorant personality, who desires vital energy only for pleasure, desire, control, or seduction—without understanding its sacred nature. She has no right to this energy.
Hercules represents the awakened Soul-Ego, which is the only part of us that can consciously control and use this vital energy—not for personal pleasure, but for growth, transformation, and understanding the Truth.
The seeker of Truth, at this stage, must understand that his vital energy can no longer be left at the disposal of the ego or the warrior elementals in his subconscious. This energy is sacred—it is the Living Water of which Christ speaks:
“… whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst…” (John 4:14)
This work is a call to transform desire into will, to protect vital energy from mental and emotional abuse, and to become a conscious administrator of one’s own energy life.
For the seeker, this work requires:
- the elimination of aggressive elementals from the subconscious;
- de-energising the desire for personal power over others;
- refusal to consume vital energy in conflicts, quarrels, seduction or manipulation;
- cultivating a state of peace, discernment, and self-control.
The belt cannot be used by Admeta—that is, the ignorant personality. Only Hercules can wear it. Only the awakened Soul can govern the Solar Plexus and transform this energy into Light.
This is an essential task in the process of deactivating aggressive elementals and emotional dependencies. It is the moment when the seeker of Truth learns to guard the vital center of power, to cleanse it, to balance it, and to use it only for Good, Truth and Divine Love.
